MMC CONTRACTORS

MMC Contractors recently opened an office in Reno as an extension of its Las Vegas location.

As a mechanical contractor on a portion of a large, hyper scale data center planned for the area, the team sees great opportunity in the region.

RENO CITY COUNCIL

Peek Brothers Construction awarded with the Pat Baker Park Renovation Project in an amount not to exceed $745,240.20.

Nelson Electric Company awarded contract to install three new access gates at the City Hall parking garage in an amount not to exceed $247,771 from the City Capital Projects Fund.

North Sierra Street Abandonment - Raising Cane’s: Council unanimously approved a request for abandonment of an approximately 1,906-square-foot unused portion of the North Sierra Street right-of-way to accommodate the development of an approximately 3,600-square-foot restaurant next to Archie’s Giant Hamburgers.

Rosewood Lakes Golf Course: Council unanimously approved Amendment No. 1 to the Long Term Lease Agreement with The First Tee of Northern Nevada. The amendment includes an updated equipment list, updates obligations of The First Tee to keep the property in golf course condition, and updates a clear termination clause of the agreement should First Tee desire to not operate Rosewood Lakes Golf Course due to the construction of the Southeast Connector project.

TMCC

Truckee Meadows Community College has been accepted to the Registered Apprenticeship — College Consortium (RACC), the first RACC member listed for Nevada.

RACC is a national network of colleges, employers, trade associations and unions that cooperate to increase opportunities for apprentices to complete academic degrees. College members award undergraduate credit for approved apprenticeship programs sponsored by the trade and industry members. RACC is a program of the U.S. Departments of Labor and Education.

CITY NATIONAL BANK

City National Bank announced that it has provided Friends In Service Helping (FISH) with a $6,000 donation for its 39-unit housing project in Carson City along with helping the organization sustain their existing emergency and transitional housing projects.

CLARK/SULLIVAN

Clark/Sullivan Construction crews broke ground on a $1.4 million maintenance and operations facility for the Northstar Community Service District.

Also, Noble was recently named to Inc. Magazine’s 500 | 5000 list of fastest-growing companies in America. It was the fourth year in a row Noble appeared on the list.

CITY OF RENO

The City of Reno is offering free Friday parking for those who purchase a Reno license plate in 2016. Any vehicle displaying the Reno plate will get free Friday parking in the City of Reno through Dec. 31, 2017.

CARSON CITY POTTERY

Carson City Pottery is moving into the historic building at 110 S. Curry Street starting Sept. 3. Normal business hours for Carson City Art Gallery and Pottery will be Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

AIR RACES

The National Championship Air Races has partnered with select Costco stores in northern Nevada and northern California to sell tickets to the National Championship Air Races. Costco members can now purchase discounted two-day Saturday and Sunday general admission tickets to this year’s Air Races, to be held September 14-18, 2016.

DIRECT FLIGHTS

Reno officials on Aug. 15 welcomed Jet Blue’s inaugural flight linking Reno to Long Beach with non-stop daily service.

JetBlue will fly the route between Reno-Tahoe International Airport and Long Beach with a 150-seat Airbus 320.

To inaugurate the new service, JetBlue is offering a one-way $59 fare until March 24 that they call their “Silver Lining” in honor of Nevada history. Nevada’s Comstock Lode of silver was discovered in 1859.

RENO BUICK GMC CADILLAC COMMERCIAL TRUCK CENTER

Reno Buick GMC Cadillac ISUZU Commercial Truck announced the installation and delivery of their first XL Hybrid System on a 15 passenger “work crew” van for Washoe County.

RIB COOK-OFF

The 2016 Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-Off will be held on Victorian Square in Sparks from Aug. 31 – Sept. 5. They will offer expanded free parking and shuttles to and from downtown Sparks.

Iron Horse Shopping Center on 505 E. Prater Way and the Reno-Sparks Convention Center parking lot at the corner of Coliseum Way and Peckham Lane will offer free shuttles.

Shuttles will run Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Monday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Shuttles will take event goers to the RTC Centennial Plaza, near Victorian and 14th St Street.

TITLEMAX

The Administrative Complaint for Disciplinary Action brought against TitleMax of Nevada, Inc. by the Nevada Financial Institutions Division (NFID) has resulted in an order being issued at the conclusion of an administrative law hearing.

The Aug. 12 order requires TitleMax to immediately cease and desist offering its Grace Period Payments Deferment Agreement (GPPDA) title loan option and return all principal and interest collected under every GPPDA entered into after Dec. 18, 2014. The order also requires TitleMax to pay an administrative fine of $307,000 with $257,000 held in abeyance provided the company’s ongoing compliance with Nevada law.

Saint Mary’s Health Network has been recognized by March of Dimes for giving babies a healthier start at life by reducing the number of elective inductions and cesarean deliveries (EED) performed before 39 completed weeks of pregnancy.

Saint Mary’s is the only hospital in northern Nevada to earn this distinction. A special recognition banner is now displayed at the regional medical center, commending hospital physicians and nurses for the achievement.

TAHOE BEACH CLUB

The Tahoe Beach Club, a 143-luxury condominium residence on the east shore of Lake Tahoe in Nevada, the first full ownership lakefront in 30 years at Tahoe broke ground Aug. 15. EMPLOYMENT

Employment increased statewide by 4,700 in July, standing 31,900 higher than a year ago. Nevada’s unemployment rate rose slightly to a seasonally-adjusted 6.5 percent, but continues to be down over the year.

SILVER STATE HEALTH INSURANCE EXCHANGE

The Silver State Health Insurance Exchange, Nevada’s marketplace for budget-appropriate health plans, has partnered with the Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (CDPHP) Section of the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health to expand the state’s Online Hybrid Community Health Worker (CHW) training program.

The partnership will double the number of students able to enroll in the eight-week training program to 42 students per quarter and add Certified Application Counselor (CAC) training and a Navigating Insurance Coverage module to the existing core CHW training.

Digiman Studio has been contracted by Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation to produce content for their new 1095 campaign. This includes a 30-second television spot along with a 60-second radio spot and still photography. The “1095” campaign that launched in August touches on the average length of treatment for pediatric cancer lasting three years.

SHAKEALERT

UNR is one of six universities working with the U.S.Geological Survey to transition their ShakeAlert earthquake early warning system into a production system that would give communities a precious few seconds to take protective actions before severe shaking waves from an earthquake arrive.

The USGS announced Monday the $3.7 million award to the universities for this latest collaboration to improve the ShakeAlert system’s sensor and telemetry infrastructure across the west coast of the United States.

UNR

The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE), UNR and UNLV have finalized an agreement that will ensure Nevada’s two public medical schools each has its own faculty as well as thriving clinical practices.

By July 1, 2017, UNR Med’s education and clinical operation will be enhanced in Reno in order to accommodate all or most students in Reno for all four years of their medical education.

UNR Med’s faculty practices will continue to grow in Reno through partnerships with community physicians and hospitals, particularly its comprehensive affiliation with Renown Health.
