Carson City counterfeit investigation results in 3 arrests

Three people were arrested Wednesday in relation to a counterfeit investigation in Carson City.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Nevada Division of Public Safety Investigation Division and the United States Secret Service, conducted an investigation into a currency ring in the Carson City area.

Conrad Hilbmann, 21, of Reno; Lorrie Lockwood, 23, of Carson City; and Kathleen Lockwood, 22, of Carson City were all arrested in relation to the investigation. Officers seized more than $3,000 in counterfeit U.S. currency Wednesday after arresting the three suspects.

Detectives arrested Hilbmann at the North Carson Street Days Inn motel around 12:15 p.m. and the Lockwood sisters were later arrested at 1:07 p.m. after detectives initiated a traffic stop on their vehicle near Russell Way and Northridge Drive.

A search warrant was served at the motel, after several days of surveillance, where investigators seized a counterfeit currency manufacturing lab, counterfeit currency in various stages of production and a small amount of methamphetamine.

Hilbmann and Lorrie Lockwood were arrested on suspicion of felony counterfeiting, felony possession of a forgery lab, felony possession of forged bills, felony uttering a forged instrument and conspiracy to commit forgery; and Kathleen Lockwood was arrested on suspicion of felony possession of a forgery lab, felony counterfeiting, conspiracy to commit forgery and felony possession of a controlled substance. Lorrie Lockwood also was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance.

The investigation has been turned over to the United States Secret Service and the federal prosecution is pending.
