The Foreman-Roberts House on North Carson Street is boarded after two fires were deliberately set damaging the historic home.

The historic Foreman-Roberts House was the victim of two arson attempts during the weekend, according to the Carson City Fire Department.

Carson City Sheriff’s Office Detectives are investigating the two arsons that occurred Sunday at 2:34 a.m. and Monday at 4:29 a.m. The Carson City Fire Department responded to the incident Monday morning where they were able to put the fire out within about 10 minutes but crews stayed on scene after to make sure there were not anymore hot spots that could ignite, said Chief Bob Schreihans.

“Crews got out there fast and were able to save the house with minimal damage to the first floor,” Schreihans said.

One of the fires did burn the historic 100 year-old door on the property. And damaged the east and south sides of the structure. Sheriff Ken Furlong said both incidents resulted in moderate damage to the building.

Investigators from the Sheriff’s Office and Fire Department were on scene for several hours Monday morning and have confirmed that the incidents are arsons.

The Sheriff’s Office did respond to an incident at the location last Tuesday after responding to reports of a fight. A 39-year-old transient man was arrested on suspicion of city property at the incident, however, it hasn’t been determined whether the incidents are related.

The Foreman-Roberts Museum House was built in 1873 in Carson City, but is currently owned by the Carson City Historical Society. It is listed on the Historic American Building Survey and the National Historic Register.

The arsons are still being investigated by detectives and the Carson City Fire Marshal. If anyone has any information on the arsons, contact Carson City Investigation Division at 775-283-7851 or the Communications Center at 775-887-2677.
