Methodist Church services: The new Methodist Church, having advanced so far toward completion as to be in a condition for temporary occupancy, will be dedicated on Sunday next, the services of the occasion being conducted by the Bishop of this diocese.

A serious bolt has occurred in the Democratic Central Committee of Eureka County, and now the Cassidy-Adams portion of the committee are the leaders of the bolt, as against the Rives-Sadler faction; who seem to have the ascendency. The Rives-Sadler captured the Central Committee by 9 to 8.

100 years ago

Constable George Sharkey of Hazen has been acquitted in the murder of Guadalupe Garcia after a preliminary hearing held at Fallon. Evidence at the hearing was to the effect that five Hispanics were drinking and carousing in a shack in Hazen and causing a disturbance when Constable Sharkey went to the cabin to quell the disturbance. The constable had placed the men under arrest when Garcia drew a knife on Sharkey. The shooting was called self-defense.

70 years ago

Further plans for Carson City’s annual Admission Day “Pageant of the Past” celebration was discussed last night. Chairman Edwin (Bud) Miller completed committee appointments for the yearly affair.

The composition of a 16-member agency designed to control pollution and urbanization of Lake Tahoe has been approved by the Lake Tahoe Joint Study Committee.

As regular sign ups closed Wednesday evening, 2,074 students had signed up for courses at the Carson City campus of Western Nevada Community College.
