Family of man killed in officer involved shooting thanks law enforcement

On Tuesday, Nov. 1, at 9:29 a.m., members of the Nevada Highway Patrol and the Carson City Sheriff’s office responded to the Carson City Senator Apartments in response to a male suspect who had shot his weapon and was ensconced with the apartment manager in the office.

Through the course of the encounter, the suspect failed to follow the verbal commands and based on movements made by the suspect and through concern for the manager, Trooper Chris Johnson fired, killing the suspect.

The suspect was my brother.

As my family travels through the tragedy of losing a loved one, we also are very cognizant of the service our law enforcement community provides on a daily basis with their commitment to respond to the many calls they receive, never knowing what they will face on any given call, always facing the possibility of being forced to take a life in order to save the lives of others involved at the moment. This is what our law enforcement community does for us every day and we are truly blessed by their dedication.

With this in mind, my family wishes to thank members of the Nevada Highway Patrol and the Carson City Sheriff’s Office personnel for their daily sacrifices on behalf of the citizens of Carson City and more particularly, for my family.

Sincerely,

Shirley Simpson Clark

Carson City
