Nevada Appeal at 150: Feb. 3, 1943: Nazi resistance at Stalingrad ends

Berlin — Feb. 3 — UP — The German high command announced officially that all resistance by axis troops in Stalingrad has ceased. The German radio played funeral music after the announcement.

The announcement admitted German planes were finally unable to provide adequate supplies by air to the troops at Stalingrad. An estimated third of a million Germans were lost in their effort to capture the city.

This continues the Appeal’s review of news stories and headlines during its Sesquicentennial year.
