Eagle Valley’s seventh grade volleyball team is having quite a season.
EV is off to an 8-1 start and recently won the Optimist Tournament in Lake Tahoe.
In the tournament, EV went 2-1, and then went 5-1 on Saturday to take the championship.
EV beat Carson Middle, lost to Incline and then beat South Tahoe, Pau Wa Lu and Carson Valley to reach the title game. In the finals, EV avenged its loss to Incline with a 25-18, 24-26 and 15-13 victory.
Abby Lemburg had 62 service points, including 31 aces, and she also added 75 assists and 31 kills. Raymie Brooks added 49 points, 24 aces and seven kills, while Madison Rabideau contributed 41 service points, 15 aces, 15 kills and 10 digs. Abby Golik finished with 28 service points, eight aces, nine kills and eight digs. Kedre Luschar had 25 points, seven aces, 27 kills and 10 digs with Caydee Farnworth adding 24 service points, nine aces, six kills and six digs. Lilly Ralla served up 24 points, inclding eight aces, and she added four kills. Marissa Perez had 15 service points, three aces, four kills and four digs, and Lauren Hawkins chipped in 10 service points, including eight aces. She also had three kills and two digs. Cristal Montero (10 digs), Liberty Hoefling and Emily Bell all played well defensively,
• EV recently beat South Tahoe (25-7 and 25-11) and Alder Creek (25-22, 25-22) and also knocked off Pau Wa Lu 25-15, 13-25, 15-10.
Rabideau had 25 service points, four aces, three kills and three digs in the three league wins. Lemburg added 15 service points, eight assists, six aces, and five kills. Ralla had 15 service points, five kills, four aces and a dig. Golik was credited with 10 service points, three kills and two aces. Farnworth had five service points, including four aces, and two kills.
EV 8th graders sixth
Eagle Valley took sixth in the recent Optimst Tournament.
Verenice Garcia and Kailee Luschar led servers with 19 aces apiece, and Stefanie Schmidt followed with 18 and Olivia Singleton tacked on 12. Emily Doddridge contributed eight kills.
Luschar led the hitters with 14 kills with Schmidt and Doddrifge adding 12 each. Camryn Quilling finished with 11 kills. Gaby Avina led the defense with 19 digs with Gloria Valdenegro adding 10 digs and Quilling nine. Singleton had eight digs.
MEFIYI. CHS host clinic
The MEFIYI and Carson High School are hosting a youth basketball camp over spring break for boys and girls who are in grades 3 through 8.
The sessions will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. each day (March 29-31). The cost is $85 per player, and additional family members are $70. Proceeds benefit the CHS girls basketball program.
The camp directors are Marie Foster and Nathan Tolbert, and head clinicians are Anthony Davis, Melissa Larsen and Rob Roesner.

Fly tying lessons scheduled
The Carson Fly Fishing Club is holding its annual free fly tying academy Feb. 15, 19, 22, 26 and 29 and March 4 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
The purpose of the class is to learn basis techniques of tying different flies (Wooly Worm, Royal Wulff, Muskrat Nymph, Zug Bug, Elk Hair Caddis and Hopper).

High school hoop league forming
The Carson City Parks & Rec is holding sign-ups for a high school basketball league. Games will be played at the MAC. The cost is $60 plus $25 for uniforms. Fees include six practices and 10 games.
