SILVER DOLLARS AND WOODEN NICKLES: Carson City students kickin’ it old school

The Nevada Appeal’s Silver Dollars & Wooden Nickels feature recognizes achievements from the capital region and, when warranted, points out other acts that missed the mark.

For us old fuddy duddys, two of our favorite activities as kids were jumping rope and LEGOs. We’re pleased Carson City kids recently brought both of those activities to the forefront.

SILVER DOLLAR: To fourth and fifth graders from Bordewich-Bray Elementary School’s Jump Club, who demonstrated their skills in an exhibition last week. Under the direction of Dona Sharp, the students have been meeting two mornings a week before school since October.

SILVER DOLLAR: To all the Carson City students who competed in the First LEGO League Northern Nevada State Championships, bringing home several awards in the process. Four teams from Eagle Valley and Carson Middle Schools and Fritsch Elementary School competed in the event held at the University of Nevada, Reno.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Ikela Lewis, who was recently named as Mr. Carson High.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Western Nevada College baseball star D.J. Peters, who was named as the Scenic West Athletic Conference Player of the Week.
