Nevada Appeal at 150: June 13, 1935: Filibuster broken as NRA resolution is passed

Washington — June 13 — UP — The White House applied pressure a few hours after the Senate broke Sen. Huey Long’s 15 1/2 hours filibuster, then the longest speech on Senate record, and passed the NRA extension resolution, and in addition forced acceptance by house leaders of Senate amendments. The revised measure will be before the House tomorrow for concurrence. Sen. Long’s speech contained more than 150,000 words.
