The Good Templars’ celebration. The members of the Order of Good Templars celebrated yesterday in a highly appropriate manner, the occasion being its first anniversary in Carson. Leaving their Lodge Room, they proceeded to the Presbyterian Church where highly interesting exercises were held. The ball at the Pavilion in the evening was a very pleasant affair.

130 years ago

A new map of Nevada is being made in the office of Surveyor-General Powning at Reno. It is stated that when the map is completed, it will show all the county boundaries as they now exist, and pains are being taken to get the exact locality of every mining district.

100 years ago

Two exciting games of basketball will mark the reopening of the basketball season after a three months interval due to storms and sickness. The Douglas County High School girls have not played the Carson City High School girls for several years.

70 years ago

Back to Carson City after an interesting tour of duty in France is T/5 Daniel W. (Bill) O’Brien. O’Brien returned after serving as an instructor of surveying in the engineering section of the American university at Biarritz, France. Before that, O’Brien saw action in the “Battle of the Bulge.”

50 years ago

Some 250 photographers from the San Francisco area will descend on Carson City this weekend with a tour of the Stewart Indian School (with tribal dances) a swim suit fashion show and a program of slides and movies. The fashion show will begin at 4 p.m. at the indoor pool of the Frontier Motel. Sunday morning, a walking tour of Carson City mansions will begin at 10 a.m.

30 years ago

Eight Carson City residents were arrested Sunday following a three-week joint undercover narcotics investigation of law enforcement departments.

Trent Dolan is the son of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
