Carson City will be holding an international film festival this weekend featuring over a dozen films.
The film festival runs Feb. 18-20. Starting Thursday films will play from 2 to 5 p.m. at Marlette Hall at Western Nevada College, featuring local, national and international filmmakers. Each night, the Carson City Community Center will host an international film, starting at 7 p.m. Film topics range from an 18th century Denmark drama to documentaries on harmonicas.
Thursday’s films, themed “stories of loss,” are by local filmmakers. “The Game;” “Blue-Eyed Boy;” and “Our Father” will be shown from 2 to 5 p.m. in Marlette Hall. “Cherry Blossoms” will follow at 7 p.m. at the Community Center.
University of Nevada, Reno filmmakers will show their films, whose theme is “films with impact,” on Friday. “Little Truckee, Big Responsibility;” “The Coming of Age;” “Pedaling the Divide;” “Life’s Just Hard;” and “Love Preserved” will play from 2 to 5 p.m. in Marlette Hall. “Children of Heaven” is at 7 p.m. at the Community Center.
“A day of music” is the theme of films by national filmmakers who will highlight the final day of the festival with “Virtual Harmony” and “Pocket Full of Soul: the Harmonica Documentary” from 2 to 5 p.m. in Marlette Hall. Anyone with a harmonica is welcome to join a harmonica jam session that follows the latter film. The festival wraps up with “A Royal Affair” at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Community Center.
Admission to all films is free and there will be a discussion after each film.
