SILVER DOLLARS AND WOODEN NICKELS: Carson City now has its sea legs

The Nevada Appeal’s Silver Dollars & Wooden Nickels feature recognizes achievements from the capital region and, when warranted, points out other acts that missed the mark.

SILVER DOLLAR: We admit it’s self-serving, but we have to recognize John Barrette, who has covered Carson City and business for the Nevada Appeal. It’s safe to say he earned the respect of all those he covered. But while John’s last day at the Appeal was Friday, he has emphasized he’s not retiring. We wish John and his wife, Jean, well as they welcome their new puppy. We thank John for a job well done here at the Appeal. He will be missed.

SILVER DOLLAR: Carson City now has its sea legs and we couldn’t be more prouder. The USNS Carson City was christened last week and we thank all those who made it possible. We’ll also again state our pride that the ships commander is one of our own, Captain Bob Wiley of Carson City.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Carson-Tahoe Health’s Jacob Watts and Cathy Dinauer for being named to the State Board of Nursing.
