Samantha Byassee crowned Miss Carson City

Samantha Byassee was crowned the new Miss Carson City Saturday night.

Byassee represented the capital in 2013 as outstanding teen and was Miss Washoe County Outstanding Teen for 2014, according to Tiffany Kenison, executive director of the Miss Douglas County, Miss Carson City & Outstanding Teen Scholarship Program.

Karrina Ferris was named Miss Carson City Outstanding Teen.

In Douglas County, residents will have to wait until March before they find out who will be representing them at the Miss Nevada Pageant this year.

With only four candidates seeking the Miss Carson City and Miss Douglas County titles on Saturday, no one received the Douglas crown.

Carson Middle School student Savanah Ray was named Miss Douglas County Outstanding Teen.

Last year’s Miss Douglas County Macie Tuell resigned her title and is competing in the Miss Reno-Sparks and Washoe County Scholarship Pageant on Feb. 21, according to Kenison.

Kenison said there were 10 participants at the Carson City Community Center on Saturday. Of those, six were seeking the Miss Outstanding Teen Title.

“In order to crown a Miss Carson City and Miss Douglas County, I have to have eight Miss Contestants compete,” Kenison said. “I only had four Miss Contestants, the contestant with the highest score wins the title.”

There are two open Northern Nevada pageants in March where contestants from all over the state participate.

The Silver State Pageant is March 5 and the Opal State Pageant is March 19.

There are also two Southern Nevada pageants open to contestants statewide.

Winners of the pageants will participate in the Miss Nevada Pageant held in May or June.
