Nevada unemployed rate inches up again

LAS VEGAS — Nevada’s monthly unemployment rate saw another slight uptick.

The state’s Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation said Wednesday that the unemployment rate rose to 6.4 percent in June.

The jobless number in May was 6.1 percent, up from 5.8 percent in April.

The rates are seasonally adjusted.

Gov. Brian Sandoval said in a statement that the unemployment rate remains stubbornly high but he also touted the number of jobs added last month.

The governor said June’s employment gains marked the strongest monthly showing in 11 years, with 7,500 new jobs.

The jobless number peaked at 13.7 percent at the height of the recession in 2010.
