SILVER DOLLARS AND WOODEN NICKEL: Carson City couple helps through wings of love

The Nevada Appeal’s Silver Dollars & Wooden Nickels feature recognizes achievements from the capital region and, when warranted, points out other acts that missed the mark.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Carson City nursing professionals Joel and Kim Allen, who provide their expertise in helping to meet health care needs through flying their own plane all over the country to places their needed.

SILVER DOLLAR: To all those who participated and organized Taste of Downtown, and of course to all the vendors who provided a delicious variety of food and drinks for the event to benefit Advocates to End Domestic Violence.

SILVER DOLLAR: To all those who participated and organized the Silver Dollar Car Show, which has become a forerunner for Hot August Nights. And to all those who showed their classic vehicles in the event. Again, we keep hearing how many prefer the more low key Silver Dollar event to the more commercialized Hot August Nights.

SILVER DOLLAR: To all those involved in making the Bob McFadden Plaza, which opened Saturday, a reality. And of course to the McFadden family who contributed mightily to the project and to the man the plaza is named after, Bob McFadden.

SILVER DOLLAR: To the community of Carson City for showing its appreciation to our law enforcement for everything they do in difficult times. And of course to our law enforcement for the job they do..

SILVER DOLLAR: To J.J. Ply for finishing sixth last week in the decathlon at the U.S. Junior Nationals in Sacramento. It was a bittersweet time for Ply who found out his family’s home was burned down after he competed.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Carson City’s Bryn Lehman for finishing 14th in pole bending at the National High School Finals Rodeo.
