Mormons. A party of seven men and 10 women, Mormons, from Salt Lake, with eight wagons and 40 head of horses and mules, arrived here night before last and stopped at child’s hay yard. They are on their way to the Sandwich Islands.

The death of Hoe. The week just closing witness the death of Hoe, the inventor of the wonderful printing press that bears his name. The present generation — as will each successive one — owes a heavy debt of gratitude to the pluck and brains of this man. Hoe took Ben Franklin’s printing press and gave it wings, capacity and perfection.

Only by the merest chance was a probable fatal accident averted on the Virginia and Truckee railroad last night when the motor, which was returning from a Reno, Chautauqua, crashed into a tie that had been placed across the track on the fill just the other side of Huffaker’s.
