The Popcorn Stand: Friday’s a dog’s day at work

Now this is a holiday I can get so into, I can’t even wait until the actual day it’s happening to write about it. Friday is Bring Your Dog to Work Day.

We have so many days to encourage those to bring their loved ones to work, the idea spawned one of my favorite jokes in one of my favorite movies, “Monsters, Inc.” When Billy Crystal’s character tried to explain the presence of “Boo” dressed up as a monster at work, he said something to the effect she was a second cousin and it was “bring your obscure relative to work day.” His boss, James Coburn’s character, replied, “must have missed the memo.”

Bring Your Dog to Work Day happens every Friday after Father’s Day. It may be too short notice for this year, but I would wholeheartedly support the Nevada Appeal going along with Bring Your Dog to Work Day in future years.

Actually, I’ve noticed Appeal employees from time to time bringing their dogs to the workplace, although never during business hours. (Shhhh don’t tell).

I’ve also noticed our society has become a lot more friendlier to dogs in my lifetime. I see dogs in the store. At church. Pretty much everywhere. And I’ve found dog owners and their dogs to be quite courteous when they’re in public places.

And if you get through this video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDrabmm421I without shedding a tear, then you’re a much stronger person than I.
