Downtown Carson City construction meeting Thursday

Officials from Carson Proud, Q&D Construction and Carson City Public Works are hosting a pre-construction meeting on the downtown Carson City project at 3 p.m. Thursday. The meeting will take place at the Ormsby Room at the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, 911 E. Musser St.

The meeting is geared toward downtown business owners, but the public is invited. Businesses can learn the construction process and the schedule; along with meeting with the construction contacts and learning about the resources available to limit the impact of construction on businesses.

The ground-breaking for the project will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 7.

“We’re incredibly excited to get this project underway,” said Nick Marano, city manager. “It’s been a long time coming and we’re lucky to have such a great team working on this. Upon completion I think the downtown corridor will be something we can all be proud of.”

Carson City Public Works officials, the City Board of Supervisors, and representatives from Q&D construction will attend the ceremony on 3rd Street near the Firkin & Fox.

Details about construction, including a live construction map can be found online at www.carsonproud.com.

The Downtown Streetscape project is one of the capital improvement projects approved by the city and is estimated to cost approximately $10 million and $11 million and funded from a 1/8th-cent sales tax increase and Public Works funding. Design for Curry Street improvements and a pedestrian plaza on Third Street are included in the design contract, though construction of the Curry Street improvements will come two years after the Carson Street and Third Street improvements.
