150 Years Ago

Case of love. The wagon of the California Brewery standing at the corner of Second and C streets, and the horse and dog belonging to it, were having a regular love feast. The dog would stand on his hind feet and kiss the horse and the horse would return the compliment. It was a most horse-pitable way of showing regard. (Marysville Appeal)

Advertisement. Shade trees 1 1/2 cents each. We are prepared to supply Cottonwood Trees from 2 to 3 feet high in lots of 10,000 at the above price delivered on cars to Fort Churchill Station. These trees, being indigenous to soil and climate of Nevada and most wide spreading and rapid growing vary in existence, are best to plant for farm and pasture shade. The Mackey statue. Clarence H. Mackey has consented to donate a statue of the late John W. Mackay for the new library building at Carson. The statue will be of bronze and executed by Gutzon Borglum, a leading New York sculptor, born in Nevada — the cost is $20,000. In the event the present site for the state library is not to a more conspicuous place, Mr. Borglum will not favor having it placed where it will not be a prominent feature of Carson.

Sugar. The first 1946 canning sugar will be available. Spare stamp nine in ration book four becomes good for five pounds of sugar. OPA cautioned that no increase in the regular sugar ration can be foreseen now and urged housewives to continue to budget home sugar use.
