Gov. Brian Sandoval to honor Caleb Cage as Veteran of the Month May 11

Caleb Cage has been named Nevada Veteran of the Month and will be honored by Gov. Brian Sandoval in a ceremony May 11 in Carson City.

As Green Zone Initiative author during his tenure as director of Nevada Department of Veterans Services, Cage continues to provide support and guidance for veterans-centric organizations, including Nevada Military Support Alliance and Team Rubicon, a deployable veteran service organization for response and recover efforts post-disaster events. He also serves as advisor to the Veterans Policy Leadership Institute (VPLI), a partnership with UNR and UNLV to ensure Green Zone Initiatives and policy developments, in support of veterans and dependents, are data driven, measurable, and substantive.

“Caleb’s unwavering commitment to produce the most effective showcase of veteran leadership inspired the establishment of multiple initiatives and organizations that have changed the paradigm of how veterans have and will continue to lead and support their community,” wrote nominator Zach Totans, Truckee Meadows Community College Veteran Coordinator.

Most recently, the VPLI, which Cage advises, launched its first annual publication, a selection of policy recommendations for state and local governments, which was developed by veterans advocates from around the U.S., noted Totans.

Locally, Cage’s leadership has established a league of veterans committed to community service, demonstrated notably through neighborhood clean-up initiatives in areas across the Truckee Meadows, Mayor’s Park in Stead.

The Reno native also served on the City of Reno’s Recreation and Parks Commission, contributing to the community’s green spaces and recreational programs.

Gov. Brian Sandoval, NDVS Director Kat Miller and veterans service organization leaders will honor Cage at 1 p.m. May 11 in the Supreme Court Room of the Capitol Building.
