Two arrests are the result of an ongoing investigation by the Carson City Sheriff’s Office and United States Secret Service.

Last Thursday, uniformed patrol deputies with the Carson City Sheriff’s Office arrested Thomas Morla, 41, and Yvonne Flores, 37, who were in possession of a stolen vehicle, according to a Carson City Sheriff’s Office press release.

Morla and Flores had previously been identified as suspects involved in the passing and manufacturing of counterfeit $100 bills throughout the Northern Nevada region during the past several months, according to the press release.

Sheriff’s Office detectives were granted a search warrant for the motel room where the suspects were staying. Detectives, deputies and Secret Service agents discovered the lab the two suspects were using to make counterfeit currency in the motel room.

Morla and Flores are both from the Sacramento, Calif., area. They frequented the Northern Nevada area during the past several months, manufacturing and passing counterfeit currency at local businesses.

The amount of passed counterfeit currency involved with both of the suspects along with other individuals involved with them is not being disclosed, but the amount is substantial, the press release said.

Morla and Flores have been charged at the local level on numerous charges. Federal charges for the manufacturing of counterfeit United States currency are pending.

The investigation is active. Anyone with information is asked to contact Carson City Sheriff’s Office Det. Sam Hatley at 775-283-7852, or Lt. Brian Humphrey at 775-283-7850, or Secret Service Resident Agent in Charge George Cheretis at 775-784-5354.
