Man arrested on suspicion of murder of missing Dayton woman

James Hamrick, 55, of Dayton was arrested in connection with the death of Toni Davis, 60, of Dayton.

According to a press release from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, working on information provided by a witness, human remains were located in a remote area of Storey County. An autopsy was performed on Wednesday with the Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office saying that Davis died after being shot in the head.

The body was found in the Six Mile Canyon area of Storey County on Tuesday night, officers said.

Hamrick is being held at the Lyon County Detention Center in Yerington.

He’s on a no bail hold on open murder charges.

Hamrick is the brother-in-law of Davis, law enforcement said.

On Tuesday, deputies uncovered a gun believed to be the murder weapon buried on a proper in Mark Twain Estates in Dayton.

Davis went missing the afternoon of April 28 and was the subject of several extensive searches in the area by multiple agencies, including Lyon County Search and Rescue and Washoe County’s Raven helicopter.

In cooperation with the Nevada Division of Investigations and with the assistance of the Washoe County Crime Lab, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office worked on the investigation.
