The Downtown Business Association is planning an open house to celebrate the completion of the construction project in the downtown corridor. The event, on Friday, Oct. 28, kicks off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at noon at the Capitol.

After seven long months, the end is in sight.

Carson City’s downtown construction project that replaced water and sewer lines, repaved and narrowed Carson Street from William to 5th streets and widened and improved its sidewalks is nearly complete.

Through next Friday, finishing touches to the road and pedestrian walkways will be done in time for the projects’s big debut before Nevada Day.

Carson Street will be open in both directions, but there will be lane shifts next week to accommodate ongoing work, said Danny Rotter, Carson City engineering manager.

That final work includes tree planting in the sidewalk planters, street striping, and installation of final pavers, electrical outlets and signage.

All side streets will remain open, too.

After Nevada Day, Q&D Construction Inc., the construction contractor, will return to finish so-called punch list items before the project can be officially complete.

On Friday, Oct. 28, Carson City will celebrate its new downtown with an all-day party put on with the help of the Downtown Business Association.

The schedule includes live music, bike rides and a beer garden as well as a ribbon-cutting ceremony in front of the Capitol Building at noon and a showing of the The Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Brewery Arts Center at 8 p.m.

The Nevada State Museum also will be celebrating its 75th anniversary.

The following schedule may be updated throughout the week so visit the Downtown Business Association’s web site at http://www.downtowncarson.org/road-future-downtown-open-house-1028/ for the day’s latest events.
