Existing industry awards, noble studios, casinos and more

CCNN

Career College of Northern Nevada will receive $119,015, as part of a grant from the Nevada State STEM Workforce Challenge program. The grant program is funded through the Nevada State Office of Science, Innovation, and Technology.

The funding will allow CCNN to purchase and install training materials and robotic and hydraulic equipment for the school’s Industrial Electronics Technology (IET) program.

Plumas Bancorp.

Plumas Bancorp., the parent company of Plumas Bank announced record earnings for the three- and six-months ended June 30.

Earnings during the second quarter of 2016 totaled $1.8 million, an increase of $482 thousand, or 36% from $1.4 million during the three months ended June 30, 2015.

Earnings per diluted share increased to $0.36 during the three months ended June 30, 2016 up $0.09 from $0.27 during the second quarter of 2015. For the six months ended June 30, 2016,

Plumas Bancorp. reported net income of $3.4 million, an increase of $840 thousand, or 33%, from $2.6 million during the six months ended June 30, 2015. Earnings per diluted share increased to $0.67 during the six months ended June 30, 2016 up $0.16 from $0.51 during the first six months of 2015.

Station Casinos LLC

On July 11, 2016, Station Casinos LLC filed an application for a special use permit to build a casino and entertainment facility on the approximately 8-acre parcel it owns on South Virginia Street across from the Convention Center.

The company will also file an application with the Nevada Gaming Control Board to relocate the grandfathered non-restricted Reno Turf Club gaming license to that location.

Radial

Radial, formerly eBay Enterprise, plans to hire an additional 550 workers in its fulfillment center in Reno to support the 10-fold increase in demand during the upcoming holiday season.

Atlantis

Atlantis Casino Resort Spa hosted a ribbon cutting on July 30 to officially open its new northeast parking lot, which also holds Reno’s only Tesla Supercharger stations.

Noble Studios

Noble Studios, a digital marketing agency specializing in web, mobile and social media, was awarded the Premier Google Partner badge in correlation with the program’s launch on Monday, June 27.

The Premier Google Partner badge recognizes Noble as a leading agency for developing and maintaining successful online advertising campaigns for its clients.

With this announcement, Noble Studios expands on its current status as the only Google Analytics Certified Partner in Nevada.

Existing industry awards

Nominations are now open for the fifth annual Existing Industry Awards. Nominations will be accepted for primary companies in Washoe County, the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center and the City of Fernley. Deadline for nominations is August 31, 2016.

Roundabout

Chef Colin and MaryBeth Smith of Roundabout Catering & Party Rentals, along with their team, have officially opened Roundabout Grill in Whitney Peak Hotel.

The new restaurant brand and menus were rolled out on Friday, July 1, launching a new culinary vision for the hotel’s restaurant, room service delivery, and new banquet and event space.

Lyon County is changing its business model as it deals with Community Development (Planning, Zoning & Building Safety). Lyon County has entered into a contract with Farr West Engineering to serve as the Community Development Director and Building Department.

NNDA

NNDA has assembled a panel to discuss what is being done to build real estate capacity. The NNDA breakfast is Wednesday, July 27 from 7 to 8:30am at the Carson Nugget.

Mark Turner, principal, Silver Oak Development Company, will provide an update on residential real estate projects. Commercial real estate development efforts will be addressed by Brad Bonkowski, Principal, NAI Alliance Carson City. An overview of the Certified Site Program, which helps to meet industrial real estate needs, will be presented by Aaron West, CEO, Nevada Builders Alliance.

Itronics

Itronics Inc., a growing and diversified fertilizer, silver, and minerals producer, announced that it has started a full scale silver refining campaign to produce commercially saleable silver bullion from a mixture of its internally generated silver concentrates and e-scrap (ground up computer circuit boards).

RTC

Complete Streets enhance safety and mobility for everyone.

Working closely with the community, the RTC has identified locations for Complete Street improvements outlined in the Complete Streets Master Plan, which was adopted unanimously by the RTC Board on July 15.

Panasonic

Panasonic Energy of North America and Nevada JobConnect are collaborating on plans to hold a job fair, focused on full-time jobs and careers in advanced manufacturing at the Gigafactory that is now being built outside Reno, in Sparks.

The job fair will be held on August 10th, from 2 p.m. - 8 p.m., at the Reno Convention Center.

IgniteSparks

Seven months of outreach to Sparks residents to secure input as the city develops its comprehensive plan has resulted in nearly a 3 percent response rate from the current population.

Two neighborhood workshops are scheduled to provide an overview of the comprehensive plan and land use map.

The #IgniteSparks community outreach effort is designed to guide the city through 2030 with a city-wide comprehensive plan.

Tahoe Brew Tours

In the last few years, craft breweries have added to the list of adventure activities for Tahoe locals and tourists alike, in turn creating a niche opportunity to connect the brewery locations speckled along the shoreline.

Unemployment rate

Nevada’s unemployment rate rose slightly to a seasonally-adjusted 6.4 percent in June, but experienced strong job growth.

In June, the Silver State experienced the strongest over-the-month gain in employment in 11 years, adding a seasonally-adjusted 7,500 jobs.

Nevada Builders Alliance

The Nevada Builders Alliance, a professional organization representing the construction industry; and all affiliated sectors, has joined the Nevada Taxpayers Association.

New members of the Builders Alliance were: Hardscapes, Inc. of Reno; and Stateline Builders of Stateline.

Nugget Casino Resort

Nugget Casino Resort has added Catalytic PURE AIR purifiers to their Housekeeping Department.

Catalytic PURE AIR purifiers were already being utilized in the new bingo area on the main gaming floor. The housekeeping department has added five additional air purifiers to improve indoor air quality in the smoking hotel rooms, public spaces and for odor control.

Maplewood Training Stables, Inc.

Maplewood Training Stables, Inc., owned and operated by Julie Winkel, has received provisional licensing from the Commission on Postsecondary Education, the licensing authority for the oversight of private postsecondary educational institutions operating in Nevada.

Parks and rec.

Reno City Council unanimously approved a contract to Peek Brothers Construction for expansion of the parking lot at Damonte Ranch Park in an amount not to exceed $160,111.40 from Residential Construction Tax District 4 Fund.

The Council also unanimously approved a contract for repairs to four courts at the Reno Tennis Center to Advanced Asphalt, Inc. in an amount not to exceed $96,976 from Donations and Park Capital Maintenance Funds.

Sewer rehabilitation project

Council unanimously approved a contract to Q&D Construction for the 2016 Sewer Rehabilitation Project Phase 1B in an amount not to exceed $8,021,006.69 from the Sewer Enterprise Fund. This project includes the rehabilitation and/or replacement of approximately 9,200 feet of aging sewer pipe within the City of Reno. The scope of work is generally in the Fourth Street area.
