SIERRA NEVADA ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS

The Sierra Nevada Association of Realtors is still accepting registrations for their annual “Alyce McCracken Scramble for Scholarships” on Saturday, Sept. 10 at the Eagle Valley Golf Course in Carson City.

This golf tournament is played in honor of Realtor Alyce McCracken, a resident of northern Nevada who had a passion for continuing education and training. Proceeds from the tournament benefit local high schools in the communities served by the Sierra Nevada Association of Realtors including the counties of Carson, Douglas, Churchill, and parts of Lyon.

NEVADA GAMING REVENUE AND COLLECTIONS

Nevada’s nonrestricted gaming licensees reported a total “gaming win” of $1,015,014,676 for the month of July 2016. This amounts to a 9.96 percent increase compared to July 2015, when licensees reported a gaming win of $923,035,888.

Washoe County reported $76,129,837 up 9.28 percent compared to $69,662,393 in July 2015. Carson Valley Area reported $8,823,541 down 1.54 percent compared to $8,961,371 in July 2015.

SCHOOL OF THE ARTS

The School of the Arts at the University of Nevada, Reno is in the final design and concept phase for the new “Act Two” building that will expand the reach and capacity for the art and music programs at the University.

FOOD BANK

Food Bank of Northern Nevada joins Feeding America, the nationwide network of Food Banks in the month long awareness campaign for September, Hunger Action Month.

Hunger Action Month is designed to inspire people to take action and raise awareness of the fact that 48 million Americans, including 15 million children are food insecure, according to the USDA.

Dickinson Wright PLLC, announced that the firm has received ISO/IEC 27001:2013 certification, becoming one of the few law firms to achieve certification.

RURAL HEALTH WORKS TRAINING

The Nevada Office of Rural Health (University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine), Nevada Primary Care Association, Nevada Rural Hospital Partners, and Center for Economic Development (University of Nevada, Reno) will host a Rural Health Works (RHW) Training on Tuesday, Oct. 18 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.. The training will be held at the Hyatt Place Reno-Tahoe Airport Hotel at 1790 East Plumb Lane, Reno, NV 89502.

The National Center for Rural Health Works (RHW) will present the training.

The William N. Pennington Foundation presented Renown Health with a $7.5 million investment, the largest gift in Renown’s history, to establish the William N. Pennington Fund for Advanced Pediatric Care.

CARSON CITY TOYOTA

Carson Toyota General Manager Dana Whaley presented a $4,000 check to WNC President Chet Burton in August. The scholarships were created to help eight college students meet financial needs, as they work toward a degree from WNC.

Four scholarships will benefit students pursuing degrees or certifications in automotive mechanics. Four other scholarships will help students attain associate degrees in the area of their choice.

NEVADA WOMEN’S FUND

The Nevada Women’s Fund is seeking vendors for Reno’s Power of the Purse, Friday, Nov. 18 at the Grand Sierra Resort from 5 to 9 p.m. Application deadline is Sept. 9.

Funds raised by the Power of the Purse support local women and families with critical social needs through individual education scholarships and non-profit organization grants.

GREAT RENO BALLOON RACE

PADDLEFEST FALL CLASSIC

On Sept. 10–11, the first annual Tahoe Vista Paddlefest Fall Classic, which will be hosted by Mourelatos Lakeshore Resort in Tahoe Vista, Calif. will take place.

This event is part of the Tahoe Cup organization. The event will set a new benchmark and host the longest inland distance paddleboard race in the world.

RENO FIRE DEPARTMENT

The Reno Fire Department reopened Reno Fire Station 7 on Skyline Boulevard, located in Ward 1, last Monday. The reopening of Fire Station 7 means that all 14 Reno fire stations are now open.

The Reno Fire Department reopened Station 7 after the Reno City Council approved hiring 32 new firefighters. The most recent group of Reno Fire Department recruits graduated in July.

BLM

The Bureau of Land Management has awarded almost $30 million in wildfire prevention projects in the Lake Tahoe Basin, Carson Range, and Carson City, the agency announced Sept 1.

SILVER LEGACY

Silver Legacy Resort Casino and William Hill announced the grand opening of the brand new Race and Sports Book. Over $2 million in renovations have been completed and a grand opening date has been set for Thursday, Sept. 8 in conjunction with the start of pro football.
