Under King Nebuchadnezzar in about 605 B.C., the Babylonian army conquered Jerusalem and took many of the Hebrew people back to Babylon as captives. Some of the young men were selected to go though three years of training in the Chaldean language and literature. We know four of these by the names of Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. After the three years, Nebuchadnezzar was so pleased with these four he appointed them as special advisors in the kingdom.
In time, the king began to have dreams. Struggling and longing for some kind of interpretation, he threatened to have all his advisors killed if they couldn’t tell him the dreams and their meanings. This was a time of intense turmoil for Daniel who made haste to his three friends requesting prayer they not be killed with the other wise men of Babylon. In answer to their prayers, Daniel received the dreams and their interpretation from God.
In response, he prayed the following as recorded in Daniel 2:20-21.
“May the name of God be praised forever and ever, for wisdom and power belong to Him. He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and establishes kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding.”
Now, more than 2,600 years later, many feel we also are in a time of intense turmoil. Do we still believe it’s God who changes times and seasons, works among the nations, and answers the prayers of His people?
On Friday, Sept. 9 the Carson City Christian Ministerial Fellowship will have a city-wide time of prayer for our city, state, nation and world. This concert of prayer will begin at 7 p.m. at the Fountainhead Foursquare Church, 3690 U.S. 395 South in Carson City.
“May the name of God be praised forever and ever, for wisdom and power belong to Him.”
