ArtBLAST exhibit and art fair to feature local artists

The City of Reno Arts & Culture Commission is teaming up with Sierra Arts to curate a group of 20 talented local and regional artists to sell their art at a unique event called ArtBLAST. The event will combine a gallery exhibition and art fair for a two-day visual arts festival at McKinley Arts & Culture Center on Riverside Drive in Reno.

“ArtBLAST was created five years ago to celebrate excellence in local art,” said City of Reno Arts, Culture & Events Manager Alexis Hill. “We are creating a movement so that people who live in Reno have access to buy local art and support local artists. All those who buy art at the event will get a sticker that says, ‘I buy local art’ as a reminder of the importance of supporting our local and regional artists.”

The event will also feature local and regional music, entertainment and food trucks.

ArtBLAST attendees will also have the option to cast a vote for the piece of art that will be added to the City of Reno’s art collection.

The 2016 ArtBLAST sponsors include the Reno Arts & Culture Commission, Pioneer Theater, JamPro, A. Carlisle Printing, Circus Circus, NV Wines and Vines, Brewers Cabinet, Reno News & Review, Art Spot Reno and the Thornton Family.

When: Fri., Sept. 16 from 3-7 p.m. and Sat., Sept. 17 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Where: McKinley Arts & Culture Center - 925 Riverside Drive in Reno
