Cheers & Kudos: Nonprofit thanks CHS students for help

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Chief Dan Ingram and his staff at Carson High School’s Junior Reserve Officers Training Program (JROTC), as well as the students for the help they provided at Sierra Therapeutic Equestrian Program’s (STEP) facility in Washoe Valley. This nonprofit program offers therapeutic riding to children, adults and veterans with physical, emotional or psychological disabilities.

Participation for the cleanup was voluntary and were hoping for at least 10 students. Believe it or not, 52 students showed up and worked picking up rocks, pulling heavy weeds and raking fields in very hot and dusty conditions.

When thanking them, they said, “No, thank you for what you are doing for veterans and our citizens.”

The nicest, brightest, kind and hard working young adults I have ever met. We were always referred to as “sir” or “ma’am.” The students ranged in ages from freshman to seniors.

Let us never forget that the majority of Carson City and the country are filled with young people of this caliber. Yet we only hear about the negative ones. So sad. Trust me, folks, our country and future are in excellent hands thanks to Chief Ingram and programs of this nature.
