150 Years Ago

Burning at state prison: A fire in the southeast part of the state prison building caused total destruction of the inside. During the fire prisoners were all secured and placed under guard. The adjoining Warm Spring Hotel was saved from extended injury while the old Territorial Assembly Hall was entirely destroyed. Lt. Gov. Slingerland, Mr. Mason and their families lost everything.

Fortune teller: Professor of Palmestry has been going about examining ladies hands for a dollar a head (we mean hand) and is still boozing around the city.

Smallpox: Mrs. J. W. Bradbury on E. Spear Street has developed symptoms of smallpox and is under quarantine. She came from Baker City, Ore., last month and was exposed to it while on the train. Physicians have been watching her case closely and the disease appeared yesterday. All persons involved have been vaccinated.
