Reno Bighorns, United Way to deliver books to children

The NBA G-League's Reno Bighorns will partner with the United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra (UWNNS) to deliver $5,000 worth of brand new books to the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows next Monday, Dec. 11. The groups share the goal to raise the number of children in northern Nevada who read proficiently by the end of the 3rd grade is directly correlated to high school graduation and career success. This early grade reading initiative is led by UWNNS and fulfilled by a collective and interdisciplinary, solution-based group known as the partnership for the Northern Nevada Campaign for Grade Level Reading. The “Boys and Girls Club Reads” program, a UWNNS-funded program, focuses on early literacy improvement through testing and enriching programs for participants in kindergarten through third grade. This book donation will enhance the literacy programs at the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows. Reno Bighorns players and UWNNS staff will be delivering books on Monday, Dec. 11 at 4:30 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club, William N. Pennington Facility at 1300 Foster Drive in Reno. Additionally, Reno Bighorns players will have the opportunity to engage with Boys & Girls Club children, sharing and showing why books and reading matters.
