The federal building: A dispatch from Washington says: “The Supervising Architect of the Treasury has opened the bids for labor and material for the erection of the Federal Building in Carson, Nevada.”

Nothing definite has yet been heard from David Shaffer, who disappeared over a week ago from the Star ranch, near Lakeview. There is the impression, however, that his is making his way to Seven Troughs, in the Humboldt County, where he formerly lived and where he owns some mining property.

Angelo Bernardino, well known Carson barber, started for Alpine County, Calif., yesterday morning to try duck hunting, but he didn’t get very far. Flood conditions in Carson Valley had no terrors for Angelo, who drive his car through the water covering the highway and approached the new Cradlebaugh bridge until the motor coughed and stopped — a couple of hundred yards short of the bridge! Water in the distributor was the cause.

An American airliner circled the Shannon, Ireland airport early today while its two hostesses delivered a baby on instructions radioed from the ground.

According to Carson grappling coach Bud Brooks, his young bunch of matmen fared pretty well but did not place in the 10-field teams of the Sloane Classic held in Vacaville.

Trent Dolan is the son of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
