The Carson City Culture & Tourism Authority board on Tuesday awarded a contract to Joel Dunn, the authority’s recently retired executive director, to assist in the transition to a new director.
The board approved a contract with NV Consulting LCC, Dunn’s consulting business, and directed staff to draft it based on the scope of work presented in the request for proposal and in NV Consulting’s response.
The contract, which will include terms as such as the contract length, is expected to come back to the board for a vote in January.
Dunn said he will finish developing the authority’s strategic plan, which is about two-thirds complete.
He said after the meeting the remaining work is to get input on culture and tourism goals from each CCCTA board member as well as each member of the Board of Supervisors and incorporate the feedback into the plan document. Dunn said that part of the strategic plan is usually contracted to a consultant.
Dunn also will, according to the RFP, work on a strategy for recruiting a new executive director.
Dunn retired Oct. 12 due to health reasons and said he needed to work fewer hours. He said at the board meeting he would be hiring a local marketing firm to work with him on the CCCTA consulting contract.
One other consultant responded to the RFP and was interviewed, as was Dunn, and a selection committee chose NV Consulting.
Chris Kipp, interim director, gave a transient lodging report at the meeting.
For the calendar year through October, room revenue in Carson City is up about 28 percent, from $14.9 million in 2016 to almost $19 million in 2017.
