Social Security raise not enough

I would like to take the time to say thank you to our congressional “leaders” for our 0.3 percent raise to our Social Security checks. My wife and I are now one step closer to the poverty status.

Utilities up 37 percent in three years, 12 percent this year alone. Gas even though low is not as low as this time last year. Food up 4-6 percent, cost of living 26 percent in 10 years, let’s say 2.6 percent per year.

Now Social Security raises — 1.5 percent in 2014; 1.7 percent in 2015; 0 percent in 2016 and 0.3 percent in 2017.

It’s only fair that Obama gave them a $4,200 bonus in December for the outstanding job they have done in the past eight years. Really? Also, Obama asked for an 18 percent raise before he left office. Don’t know if this was approved by who ... Congress.

I would imagine I speak for most of us on Social Security. Thank you, Congress, once again.
