SILVER DOLLARS AND WOODEN NICKELS: A LEGO up for Carson City’s EVMS

The Nevada Appeal’s Silver Dollars & Wooden Nickels feature recognizes achievements from the capital region and, when warranted, points out other acts that missed the mark.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Eagle Valley Middle School’s First LEGO League Robotics team, which won the Northern Nevada LEGO League competition at the University of Nevada, Reno. Team Jedi Engineers will be competing in a world tournament with their LEGO robotics in Houston, Texas, April 18-23. The team consists of Emmanuel Alvarez, Ryan Cooley, Bryar Fancher, Cash Farnworth, Nevan McIlwee, and Kai Miller.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Carson High’s Valerie Sue Meyer for earning a scholarship to play soccer at Division I Saint Mary’s.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Carson City Justice of the Peace/Municipal Court Judge Thomas R. Armstrong who was honored as Judge of the Year Award by the Nevada Judges Association at its 2017 Winter Seminar.

SILVER DOLLAR: To the Frezzo family of Washoe Valley who honored their son and brother Mike, who passed away from esophageal cancer in 2014, by presenting a naming gift to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada to establish the Mike Frezzo Tech Center.
