Music series continuing at Cafe at Adele’s

The Reno Swing Set

The Reno Swing Set

The Reno Swing Set plays Thursday, July 27, at 6:30 p.m., as Cafe at Adele’s hosts another evening of music as the Veranda Series continues.

The quartet formed about five years ago in a rather organic fashion and has been performing consistently throughout the area and Northern California since.

Linda and Michael Madan moved to Reno from New Jersey on Thursday and began meeting like-minded people and were playing within the first week.

“We found Bill (McKean, guitar) through another guitar player we knew and then found our horn player, John (Anderson, flute, penny whistle and soprano saxophone),” said Linda, who plays upright base. “We were meant to be here and everything fell into place.”

The Madans in their daily life own South Creek Pizza Co., featuring woodfired cooked Neapolitan-style pizza, an endeavor largely overseen by their son Ian, which allows them more time to perform.

The Reno Swing Set plays a range of music — swing, bluegrass, gypsy and acoustic jazz, blues, Celtic and Dawg (named for Dave Grisman who was given that nickname by Jerry Garcia). They perform at St. James Infirmary every other Monday and can usually work in a last-minute gig with a couple weeks notice.

“We have been to more festivals this year than in the last 15,” Madan said. “This will be our first time performing on the Veranda, and we look forward with providing patrons with an intimate show with music that is tight and highly rehearsed.”

“We’re having so much fun and are blessed to play with great people,” Madan said. “We love the music and being in each others’ company and I think that comes through in our performance.”

Cafe at Adele’s offers a special Veranda menu during the series. The restaurant is located at 1112 N. Carson St., Carson City.
