Carson City School Board reviews Race to Top grant

Carson City schools have made great strides under a five-year Race to Top grant, the Carson City School Board was told Tuesday, and there are some areas that could still be improved.

Steve Pradere, director of the district’s office of transformation, delivered the final report on the grant, which was initiated in 2012, but also made it clear the district will continue to update the board regularly on the initiatives started under the grant.

The grant was designed to address curriculum, instruction, assessment and leadership with an overall goal of improving student performance.

Several board members congratulated Pradere and the district on the progress made during the past five years.

Also Tuesday, the board approved Aramark Education as the nutrition services food service management consultant for 2017-18 at a cost not to exceed $49,044.

In other action Tuesday, the board:

• Approved renewal of the property/casualty insurance package with Nevada Public Agency Insurance Pool;

• Approved the emergency operations plan;

• Approved amendments to the trustees’ code of conduct;

• Reviewed the internet safety and acceptable use policy;

• Discussed proposed changes to rules of acceptable and responsible use student signature page;

• Approved a final amended budget for fiscal year 2016-17.
