SILVER DOLLARS AND WOODEN NICKELS: They’re in Carson City’s kids’ corner

The Nevada Appeal’s Silver Dollars & Wooden Nickels feature recognizes achievements from the capital region and, when warranted, points out other acts that missed the mark.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Mike and Frank Peralta for their work with the Carson City Boxing Club in mentoring youth and encouraging them to take a positive path.

SILVER DOLLAR: To the 28 AmeriCorps members who are scattered throughout the Sierra Nevada with the role of restoring and monitoring Sierra watersheds.

SILVER DOLLAR: To all those honored with Pioneer Awards by the Northern Nevada Development Authority: Battleborn Award for Leadership in Sustainability: Bently Enterprises (Minden); Boundary Peak Award for Nonprofit of the Year: Nevada Rural Community Partners (Carson City); Silver Forge Award for Manufacturer of the Year: CGI, Inc. (Carson City); Kit Carson Award for Most Outstanding Entrepreneur of the Year: QuantumMark, LLC (Reno); Mark Twain Award for Marketing Campaign of the Year: In Plain Sight Marketing, LLC (Carson City); Silver Apple Award for Best Education Initiative: Silver Stage High School; Silver State Awards: Elise Brady, Carson High School; Scott Harrison, Whittell High School; Jakeline Guerrero, Yerington High School; Allison Hultberg, Virginia City High School. The award winners will be honored during a banquet on March 31 at the Carson Nugget.
