Community sports: Fred Alexander Golf Clinic is set for May 21

Last year's "special golf club winner" and his dad during the Fred Alexander Memorial Family Golf Clinic.

The 25th annual Fred Alexander Memorial Family Golf Clinic is set for May 21 at Eagle Valley Golf Course.

The free golf clinic is for kids from 6 to 17 and their families. Registration starts at 10:30 a.m., and the clinic gets underway at 11:45 and runs until 4 p.m.

The clinic is sponsored by the Alexander and Raupp families, Michael Hohl Automotive, Battle Born Harley Davidson, Eagle Valley Golf Course, the E.L. Cord Foundation, the Patricia and David Kepler Foundation, the E.J. Tegner Foundation and the Sierra Nevada Chapter of the NCPGA. Local professionals will be instructing at the clinic.

Peter Longo will be putting on a trick shot demonstration during the event.

Mick wins top

flight at Empire

Gary Mick shot a net 44 to win Flight A at the Empire Ranch Senior Men’s Club Stableford tournament on May 3.

Dennis Joseph was second with 43 and Steve Hinckley was third at 40. Skip Yokota won Flight B with 47 points, five better than Fred Olesek and seven ahead of John Masiello and Dave Nolte. Ken Cuneo won Flight C with 43 points, one ahead of Robert Pluth and two ahead of Moe Dias and Tom Wickham.

Hamilton quartet

wins at Toiyabe

Vern Hamilton, Saul Singer, Burt Clements and Nate Brown scored 184 to win the Toiyabe Golf Club’s Variable Best Ball Stableford event.

Mike Schellin, Bret Andreas, Jim Colgan and Richard Franklin were second at 172 and Eric Ottenheimer, Ryan Smith, Rob Jennings and Curtis Thompson were third at 171.

• Cheryl Burke and Barbee Waldren shot a 77 to win the Tahoe Flight low gross at Toiyabe’s women’s tournament. The format was blind draw partners.

Susan Hood and Sue Stacey won first place low net with a 60.

Gayle Block and Richelle O’Driscoll shot 97 for Sierra Flight low gross honors. Mary Lou Boardman and Tina Hughes won low net with a 66.

Streeter wins at

Eagle Valley

Kathy Streeter shot an 87 to win Flight 1 low gross honors for the Eagle Valley Women’s Club on May 3. The format was Aces of Aces.

Georgia Silva was low net with a 67 in Flight 1, and Annette Ramirez and Lee Wilson each had a 72.

Fran Beal won low gross in Flight 2 with a 101. Jackie Allard won low net with a 71, while Denise Clodjeaux and Nancy Martinelli had a 74. Pat Gilbert won Flight 3 low gross with a 102. Bonnie MacQuarrie won low net with a 67 followed by Donna McKimmey with a 71 and Sandy Small at 72.

Browns win showdown

against Raiders

The Browns improved to 10-0 with wins over the Raiders, 40-12, and the Steelers, 46-31, in the Talents Carson City NFL Flag Football League action last week.

Anthony Larry scored seven TDs for the Browns, while Trevor Marlin had four TD passes and four other scores. Alex Myrehn added one TD pass and three scores. Kory Grist chipped in three scores.

The Raiders (6-3-1) got five TD passes and a score from Joey Altermerano, two TD passes and two scores from Chris Bravo, three scores from Carlos Conchas and three TDs and one TD pass from Erick Vasquez.

The Eagles improved to 5-5 with two wins. Ryan Galloway scored once and threw for four scores, R.J. Gomez scored five times, Jon Ammerman threw three scoring passes and Matthew Doan had three scores.

Conner Baker had six TDs and a scoring pass as the Patriots split two games to move to 4-5-1. Jacob Hanson had six TD passes and a score, and Noah Presswood had three scores. The Seahwks went 0-2 to fall to 3-7. Aden McNabb had three TD passes and a score, Thomas Young scored four times, and Aaron Whitt had two TDs and two TD passes. The Steelers also went 0-2 to fall to 1-9. Christian Smith had six TD passes and two scores.
