State treasurer promotes college savings giveaway

In honor of 529 Day, the Nevada State Treasurer’s Office is encouraging Nevadans to enter the college savings account giveaway contest.

Five $529 accounts will be given away during the contest, which will run to May 31.

Entrants must be Nevada residents with a child aged 13 or younger. To enter the contest, visit ssga.upromise529.com/giveaway before midnight on May 31.

“We are excited to celebrate College Savings Month with this amazing giveaway,” said Dan Schwartz, Nevada State Treasurer. “It’s a great chance to get a jump-start on saving for your child’s future!”

There is no purchase necessary to win. Five winners will be selected from a random drawing after the deadline, and will receive a $529 contribution into an SSGA Upromise 529 Plan.

“Many parents are unsure of the benefits of saving for college early,” Schwartz said. “We want to use College Savings Month to inform and encourage parents to sign their children up, and start saving now.”

Plans offered by the Nevada State Treasurer’s Office include the Nevada Prepaid Tuition Program, SSGA Upromise 529 Plan, the Vanguard 529 College Savings Plan, the USAA 529 College Savings Plan, Putnam 529 for America, and Wealthfront 529 College Savings Plan. Each plan is different and they can be used together to offer families a complete savings strategy.
