150 Years Ago

Pelicans: A large flock of pelicans passed by and around Carson. They circled around at an immense height and were evidently in no haste. These fowls are not often seen in this vicinity.

Brahma chickens: An emigrant offered for sale fine Brahma chickens brought from Iowa. They were purchased by Clay Merritt and P. W. Cunningham who are two chicken fanciers. They invited two or three acquaintance to look at the birds and found the coop to be empty. They threatened to prosecute everybody at the Lafayette Hotel for stealing and offered a reward of drinks for the chickens’ recovery. Suddenly the chickens reappeared in the coop, and everybody drank to the propagation of Brahmas at the expense of the owners. (Winnemucca Silver State)

A new city, Yerington: The first city election was held in Yerington. The mayor-elect, Judson G. R. Smith, is a leader in the progressive movement and manual modern improvements are promised to be made.

Births: A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Mel Colgrove of Richard, Calif.

Bing Crosby: Hollywood radio and movie star made a brief visit to Clare West in Carson City. West was employed by Cecil DeMille of Hollywood as a designer.
