Carson City TRIAD formed to support local seniors

The Carson City Senior Center, Sheriff’s Office and Fire Department have officially formed the Carson City Nevada TRIAD organization, a joint effort to provide information, education and support to Carson City seniors.

The group is expected to sign a cooperative agreement during the next Board of Supervisors meeting at the community center on June 1.

Sheriff Ken Furlong said the city’s former TRIAD program ended several years ago and the program has been long overdue for a reboot.

“This is a great collaborative opportunity through the Senior Center connecting as many resources with as many populations, both younger and older,” Furlong said. “We will offer current, engaging and informative issues pertinent to everyone on our monthly schedule.”

TRIAD was brought back to life by a team of volunteers, the Carson City Nevada Triad Council, who have met weekly throughout April and May at the request of Furlong, Fire Chief Sean Slamon, and Courtney Warner, executive director of the Senior Center.

“We’re excited to bring fresh, important and relevant information to our community,” Warner said. “I’m grateful to our volunteers who make up our board of directors and council, as well as members of the business community who have stepped up to lead our community advisory council on education.”

A two-person executive board, including Corry Steiner, chair, and Laura Lopez, vice chair, were elected in early May. On May 15, the Community Advisory Council on Education was formed to act as subject matter experts for planning and providing educational content.

Community advisory council members include Brian Howard, US Bank; Lori Bagwell, Carson City Board of Supervisors; Kim Deal, Eden Health; Rev. Chad Adamik, St. Paul’s Lutheran Family; Sandy Severance, RSVP; and Kitty McKay, Carson Tahoe Community Health.

TRIAD’s inaugural program featuring the Carson City Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Team is scheduled for June 9. Information will be available in the Senior Center lobby beginning at 10:30 a.m. with the presentation from 12:15 to 1 p.m.
