As the Fallon area prepares for summer, preparations of another sort are also under way as the 2017 Octane Fest approaches.

This year’s events will take place June 9-11 in all corners of Fallon.

Rattlesnake and Top Gun Raceways will host high-speed events for dirt track and drag strip fans. Meanwhile, the Churchill County Fairgrounds have their Jamboree, featuring heavy vehicles — including monster trucks, tractors and quads. There will also be a demolition derby, stuntmen, fireworks and the Miss Octane Fest competition.

The events kick off next Friday with the fairground’s gates opening at 4 p.m. for the Monster Truck rides and a meet-n-greet with the monster truck drivers. The evening features truck pulls, karts, a demolition derby, stunt drivers and ends with a fireworks show at 10:45 p.m.

The weekend’s events open bright and early with a burnout contest and monster truck meet-n-greet at 8 a.m. Race fans will be able to meet their favorite drivers and get a close look at the cars during the motorsports car show in the Walmart parking lot at 9 a.m. before the “Cruise and Shine” down Maine Street at 1 p.m.

Sunday will be the capstone of the event and a day of racing. The first races start at noon at Rattlesnake Raceway, and the heats continue throughout the day until the last racers cross the finish line.
