Gross gaming revenues jumped more than 10 percent across Reno-Sparks in August compared with a year earlier, marking a prosperous month that was aided by the region’s biggest special event, Hot August Nights, which brought thousands of tourists along with their classic cars to the region.
Friday’s report from the Nevada Gaming Control Board showed $77.2 million in the total gaming “win” in Washoe County for August. Within the Reno city limits, the increase was even higher — nearly 12 percent — while in Sparks, the win was a more modest 7.5 percent.
In the Carson City-Carson Valley gaming corridor, the August win showed a 9 percent increase over the year while casinos at Stateline on the south shore of Lake Tahoe showed a 7 percent improvement from August 2016.
Statewide, the gross gaming revenue total also soared, rising 15 percent over the year, aided by hefty increases on the Las Vegas Strip, which by itself generates more than one-half of the statewide total gaming win.
