Carson City mayor featured at ESL program fundraiser

Entertainment, food and a program by Mayor Bob Crowell are slated at a fundraiser to benefit the ESL In-Home Program of Northern Nevada, a charity organization that helps non-English speaking adults learn and improve their English language skills.

The fundraiser, offering sandwiches, snacks, dessert and drinks along with music and Latin dancers for entertainment, will be 5-8 p.m. Aug. 28 in the Nevada Room of the Governor’s Mansion, 600 N. Mountain St.

A wine bottle toss, silent auction and raffles are also planned. Crowell will present a film about the ESL In-Home Program.

Advance tickets are $20 per adult and $30 per couple. Children under 12 will be admitted free.

Proceeds will fund the program’s operations.

In addition to free language tutoring services, the ESL In-Home Program provides workplace communication, computer literacy, GED preparation, and citizenship study regardless of sex, age, race, religion or national or ethnic origin, or physical disabilities.
