Barbara Jones: In God We Trust

In starting a new year and season, it would be good for us to reflect on who and what we trust in. Is it money, people, luck or do we trust in the Lord? I have included some information and scripture from the American Patriot’s Bible to hopefully encourage to see the light of how blessings can come or be lost.

“He who trusts in the Lord, mercy shall surround him” (Psalm 32:10).

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord” (Psalm 33:12).

President Eisenhower placed his hand on Psalm 33:12 as he took the oath of office in 1957.

President John F. Kennedy, in a speech in February 1961, said, “Let us go forth to lead this land that we love,” joining in the prayer of General George Washington, in 1783, “That God would have you in His holy protection, that He would incline the hearts of the citizens ... to entertain a brotherly, love and affection for one another ... and finally that He would graciously be pleased to dispose us all to do justice, to love mercy ... characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed religion without an humble imitation of whose example we can never hope to be a happy nation.” “The guiding principle and prayer of this nation has been, is now, and shall ever be “In God We Trust.”

Besides being on our money, “In God We Trust is inscribed in the U.S. Capitol House and Assembly. In the chapel is a stained glass window of President George Washington in prayer with the words under it, “This Nation Under God.” Also, the prayer from Psalm 16:1 is etched in the window, which prays “Preserve me, God, for in Thee do I put my trust.”

The following is an assignment for us from Jude 20:23: “But you beloved, building yourself up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And on some, have compassion making a distinction, but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by flesh.

President Abraham Lincoln said, “Let us have a new beginning under God.”

That is my prayer, also, and that people will open their hearts and ask Jesus into their lives. It is time to turn back to the Lord before it is too late.

The Bible says His mercies are new every morning.

May you have a blessed new year.
