The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather warning for Northern Nevada, though the incoming storm may have little meaningful affect in the valleys.
A few valley snow showers are expected Tuesday with little to no accumulation for western Nevada, the NWS statement said.
“Some locations could see problematic commutes Tuesday morning and evening, while others will remain free of snow. Snow will change to rain by Wednesday. Rain late Wednesday and Thursday may produce amounts up to 1 inch.”
In Carson City, there is a 30 percent chance of snow between 10 p.m. Monday and 4 a.m., Tuesday. The low temperature will be around 27 with new snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
On Tuesday, the NWS reports a 30 percent chance of snow in Carson City, mainly after 10 a.m. The high will be near 43 with new snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
There is a chance of rain and snow Tuesday night with a low around 34 and little or no snow accumulation expected.
Wednesday calls for a 50 percent chance of rain, mainly after 4 p.m., and rain likely after 10 p.m.
Rain and snow showers are likely on Thursday, with new snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
A chance of rain and snow showers continues through 10 a.m. on Friday.
But at higher elevations, it should be drastically different.
The storm could bring several feet of snow to Lake Tahoe over the course of a couple days, the Tahoe Daily Tribune reported on its website.
Light snow showers are possible Monday, with accumulation of less than 1 inch possible, according to the National Weather Service in Reno. High temperatures will reach 36 degrees in South Lake Tahoe and 33 in Incline Village.
Occasional snow showers are expected to continue Tuesday before becoming a widespread storm Tuesday night, according to the weather service. Down to 6,000 feet there could be up to 2 feet of snow through Thursday night.
The storm also will bring strong winds Wednesday and Thursday, with ridge gusts of 60-80 mph Wednesday before increasing to over than 100 mph Thursday.
Chances of rain and snow will persist Friday and Saturday, according to the weather service.
