The Popcorn Stand: You have to take this job lying down

Now this sounds like the most awesome job. EVER. At least at first it did. Upon further research (I just kept reading the story), this may be the worst job. EVER. When I read NASA, the European Space Agency and the German Aerospace Center was basically offering $18,500 for people to lie in bed for two months, I immediately considered asking my boss, Adam Trumble, for a two-month sabbatical. The agencies are looking for 12 men and 12 women between the ages of 24 and 55. But again upon further review, it sounds like a pretty awful job. You have to stay in bed for 24 hours a day, seven days a week for 60 straight days. No bathroom breaks. No bathing. No getting up for meals. As one story I read about this stated — “eating, washing, showering, going to the toilet, leisure activities” will take place lying down. So you’re basically being paid to go to prison. Maybe worse than prison. The name of the job is cool, though: The Artificial Gravity Bed Rest Study, The job is in Cologne, Germany and you need to know how to speak German. So that definitely counts me out. And after you work out the math, for this miserable job, you’ll be making just less than $13 an hour. Adam Trumble won’t have to worry about leaving for a two-month sabbatical. At least not for this job. I’ll pass. I won’t take any job lying down any time soon. — Charles Whisnand
