On national “Random Acts of Kindness Day,” Feb. 17, 2021, doctors and staff from Sparks-based Family First Chiropractic presented Girls on the Run Sierras (GOTR) Executive Director Joy Heuer and fellow GOTR board members with a donation of $4,500.

The money will help sponsor Northern Nevada girls who cannot afford Girls on The Run programming, according to a Feb. 25 press release.

“We love the fact that Girls on the Run empowers and encourages people, and especially young women, in our community to have self-love,” Dr. Rick Swecker, owner of Family First Chiropractic, said in a statement. “In our world right now, we really believe there’s a lack of love for ourselves and we believe that attribute alone, in addition to so many other wonderful things the organization does, is just so vital to the health of our community.”

“This is a true gift,” added Heuer. “This money will help us with scholarships for our spring program. There are many, many girls in our area that can’t afford our program. And this donation couldn’t have come at a better time. Now we will have lots of scholarships for lots of little girls who deserve the opportunity to be part of our program. This money will cover almost an entire school.”
