United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra (UWNNS) recently hired Rachel McKinney as the nonprofit’s Early Education Director.

McKinney will be responsible for implementing the expansion of the Nevada Ready! State Pre-K classrooms in private early education centers across Northern Nevada, according to a Sept. 15 press release, through a partnership with United Way of Southern Nevada and the Nevada Department of Education.

UWNNS received a $1.3 million grant last month to implement the program, through which UWNNS will aid more than 150 children who otherwise would not have access.

McKinney, who holds a master's degree in human development from Pacific Oaks College, comes to UWNNS with over 20 years of early childhood education experience, including working in the classroom, leading a team of early education coaches, and teaching college-level courses to prepare future early childhood educators.
