Nevada affordable housing grants total $500 million

The state housing division has completed the process of awarding $500 million in Home Means Nevada funding to develop affordable housing.

Gov. Steve Sisolak said the program is the largest single investment into affordable housing in state history.

“Now developers can get shovels into the ground and construction projects across the finish line,” he said.

He said the projects funded through the program will create positive change for generations of Nevadans by ensuring that more families in underserved communities can find an affordable home.

Housing Division Administrator Steve Aichroth said the program will expand affordable housing statewide at a time when it is most needed.

The initiative includes four categories of funding the division will administer — multi-family development, multi-family preservation, land acquisition and home ownership development and rehabilitation.

Among the awards announced this week is the Northern Nevada Community Housing Resource Board that will receive $39.4 million for a new development to be called Eagle’s Landing. That project will construct 126 affordable housing units in Carson City.

Home Means Nevada will fund development of a total of 2,800 units across the silver state and the rehabilitation of more than 1,000 multi-family units, many of them in the Reno area where the shortage of affordable housing is acute.

In addition, officials say rental assistance is still available through current programs that can be found at https://housing.nv.gov/.
